Adoption fees don't cover it
We charge $75 to $150 to adopt most cats. The veterinary care behind each one — spay or neuter, vaccinations, rabies, FeLV/FIV testing, deworming, flea prevention, microchip — costs $140 to $265.
That gap is not an accounting mistake. Every rescue runs it on purpose, because pricing cats at what they actually cost would mean nobody adopts them. Donations are what make the gap survivable.
